Electronic Data Submission
Electronically upload patient data into VPS in bulk
What is it?
Electronic Data Submission (EDS) represents VPS’s approach to electronic data collection, enabling hospitals to electronically transmit patient information to our systems without manual data entry (but approval of suggestions is still required). This integration streamlines your data collection and improves data accuracy. VPS leverages Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR), the industry-leading healthcare data exchange standard.
What resources are required from my hospital?
Your hospital will need IT resources familiar with FHIR application implementation. Epic and Cerner will support FHIR application out of the box as standard features. VPS’s team will work closely with your technical staff during initial setup. After go-live and initial system tuning, IT involvement is typically limited to maintenance and occasional updates as standards evolve.
What is required to participate?
A simple addendum is required to be signed to participate in EDS. For initial onboarding, your IT department would need to help onboard and setup the application but there is minimal effort on their part.
Would this require a new security review by my hospital?
While we encourage you to verify with your security team, VPS Connect utilizes industry-standard FHIR protocols, OAuth 2.0 authentication, and TLS 1.2+ encryption. Many hospitals find that FHIR implementations align with existing security frameworks and may require less scrutiny than custom interfaces. We provide comprehensive security documentation to facilitate your review process.
What is the cost?
Currently, there is no additional fee for participating in EDS.
What is the benefit in participating?
VPS anticipates a reduction in time spent on data collection, which will decrease your data collection costs, allowing that time to be reallocated to using the data.
What data fields do you support?
PS currently supports demographic fields, some PIM fields, most PRISM3 fields and most PRISM4 fields. Please contact us for an exact list.
What about CSV Uploads?
As of January 1, 2027 VPS will no longer offer the ability to upload CSV uploads, and we are no longer onboarding new hospitals with CSV uploads. The decision is part of VPS’s broader strategy to align with evolving healthcare interoperability standards and VPS’s goals to provide all our partners with more secure and efficient data exchange methods.
